Full-Service Shopify Rebuild
Industry: Off-Road & Recovery
What We Did: Shopify eCommerce · Custom Liquid · Metaobject Architecture · YMM Fitment · UX Design · PDM / Data · SEO · Content Strategy
Platform & Timeline: Shopify, Alpha theme — 3.5 months — live since May 21, 2026
BUILT TO PULL ENGINEERED TO SELL
We rebuilt the entire Shopify ecosystem from the ground up — a scalable, metaobject-driven architecture that streamlined content management, improved UX, and introduced a custom vehicle-fitment system for winches that other agencies weren’t willing to take on. A previous agency had already attempted this rebuild and stalled out before launch; we took it from there.

From WARN's PDM to your driveway.
None of it works without the data underneath holding up.
Our team stayed hands-on with WARN’s data for the full 3.5-month engagement — restructuring PDM data, tagging all 996 products, and configuring the metafields that feed both fitment and the collection system. We also engineered the fitment system itself: the vehicle-weight database and the integration layer between Convermax’s search and WARN’s product taxonomy that no off-the-shelf app could handle alone.
Tags turned out to be the safest way to flag product data through the whole PDM → Matrixify → Shopify pipeline — readable by non-developers, exportable in bulk, and able to carry Template Suffix assignments straight through Matrixify, unlike a plain CSV.
The fitment engine shows up to customers as two things: a garage that remembers a customer’s year, make, and model across the whole site, and a dedicated Shop Parts By Vehicle collection with its own facets — primary use, winch capacity, included line, WARN series, mounting style — layered on top of the vehicle match.
They said it was impossible.
WARN’s old site could match accessories to a customer’s vehicle — but not winches, the actual core product. That gap was the most confusing part of the old shopping experience: a customer could filter a bumper by their rig, but not the winch it was built to carry.
The reason it’s hard: a winch isn’t rated by make and model, it’s rated by pulling capacity. Real fitment meant knowing what each vehicle actually weighs, not just what it’s called. Most agencies weren’t willing to take that on, and even WARN’s own team wasn’t confident it could be solved. We built a vehicle-weight database from scratch, matched it against WARN’s winch capacity specs, and integrated the whole system with Convermax’s YMM search — styled with custom Figma designs so it feels native to warn.com, not bolted onto it.
The final result is a modern Shopify platform built to scale with WARN’s catalog, support both dealers and consumers, and dramatically improve product discovery, education, and long-term maintainability.
On warn.com today — the new platform went live May 21, 2026. In its first 3.5 months live, the rebuilt site has drawn 93,196 sessions to the homepage alone, with thousands of real orders moving through VR EVO winches, D-ring shackles, and OEM remotes — the exact kind of vehicle-specific parts the new fitment system was built to help customers find with confidence.
60+ pages. Down to 15.
WARN’s old comparison pages were sprawled across four divisions with no consistent structure — some crammed with products, others nearly empty. We audited every page, mapped every product line, and rebuilt it as one system: 15 “Know Your Gear” pages, powered by 122 entries in a single comparison_pages metaobject. Add a division, a tag, and a sort order — a new winch finds its own place.
Know what you need before you buy.
A winch doesn’t bolt onto a bumper by itself — most of WARN’s products depend on other products to actually work, and customers were left guessing what else to add to the cart. We built two systems to close that gap: a component builder that surfaces required and optional add-ons right on the product page, and a guided navigation that walks customers through complex builds step by step.
Trans4mer System Builder
The Trans4mer Gen III front-end system is built from three interdependent pieces — a bracket kit and winch carrier that are required, plus an optional grille guard for extra protection. Rather than making customers cross-reference compatibility charts, the product page itself lays out what’s required versus optional, and once a vehicle is added, filters the parts grid down to only what actually fits.
TRANS4MER GEN III
Modular Front-End System
The Trans4mer Gen III is a modular front-end system built around three core component groups. Start with the required pieces, then add the protection and style you want.

Three steps. One solid foundation.

Guided navigation
A snow plow system isn’t one product — it’s a mount, a plow base, a lift actuator, a blade, and often a handful of accessories, all of which have to match. Instead of leaving customers to piece that together on their own, the Snow Plow Systems menu breaks it into five guided steps — mount, base, lift, blade, accessories — so each click narrows straight to the right category for their setup.
A paper trail that finally makes sense.
Y/M/M Fitment — Now for the Core Product
500+ install guides, operator’s manuals, replacement-parts lists, catalogs, and warranties — all stored once as a Literature Document metaobject and fed automatically to every place they’re needed: the product page, the Literature Library, and the Catalogs page.
On the old site, those same PDFs were separate media files — one set linked from the product page, another linked from the literature pages — with no relationship between the two, so a document could exist in one and be missing from the other. Migrating to Shopify meant matching every file to the right product using the tags carried over in the import, together with each part’s SKU.
That matching process also surfaced gaps in WARN’s own product tagging, which we documented and sent back to WARN’s team to fix at the source in their PDM. Adding a new document is now simple enough for WARN’s team to handle on their own — no code, no hunting down every page a file needs to live on.
Give it a try — search “zeon” above and watch the list filter live.

One guide. Twelve chapters.
WARN’s Basic Guide to Winching used to be scattered across 11 separate pages, with no way to jump to what you needed. We rebuilt it as a single interactive page — 12 collapsible chapters, a sticky sidebar table of contents that tracks your scroll position, and hash-based deep links so any chapter can be shared with one URL.
Below is a working sample of the Basic Guide to Winching we built for warn.com. Click any chapter to open it and see the interaction in action.

You have your WARN winch and you're ready to get out on the trails. This guide provides a basic understanding of your winch and the basics of proper winching techniques. Because no two situations are alike, it would be nearly impossible to review them all. We can, however, provide you with the general principles and techniques.

In some situations, recovery could involve two people. You and your helper must establish clear and precise hand signals. It should be understood that if the driver controlling the winch cannot see both hands of the assistant, the winch should not be activated.

Old Site vs. New.
500+ PDFs hardcoded across hundreds of product pages.
One metaobject feeds every page automatically — update once, done everywhere.
60+ scattered pages across four divisions, no consistent structure.
15 streamlined pages, 122 entries, one design system.
Spread across 11 disconnected pages with no navigation.
One interactive page, 12 chapters, shareable deep links.
No real fitment for winches — only ever worked for accessories.
Full winch fitment, built on vehicle weight data, native to the site.

Building on the WARN Look
Bold, condensed, and a little bit dangerous — the same visual language WARN has used on packaging and print for decades, carried straight into the new storefront. This was a full visual redesign, not a re-skin.
